Elimu Care is committed to advancing the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people through a series of engaging programs. One of our key initiatives is the Healthy Gossip sessions, informal gatherings that offer young individuals a platform to discuss and learn about comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). These sessions empower participants to make informed decisions regarding their sexuality and personal boundaries.

We are also actively implementing “World Start With Me,” a targeted CSE program at the Thika School of Medicine – Bamburi Campus. Our goal is to provide learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools they need for responsible decision-making, while also fostering a supportive community. The Thika School of Medicine and Health Sciences serves as a critical venue for this program, offering an exemplary setting for embedding comprehensive sexual education into academic environments and addressing the urgent need for youth empowerment in Kenya.

SEEDS: Sexual Education & Empowerment for Dynamic Societies

This project engaged children between the age of 9-15 years, from marginalized families in slum areas of Mombasa to facilitate innovative methods to improve their numeracy and literacy skills. The initiative engages the learners during their school holidays in activities that include reading exercise and comprehension, mentorship and games. The objective of this project is to provide a range of strategies aimed at improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills.

Implemented in partnership with Path Youth Org, Give for Good and Swahili Pot Hub.

Numeracy & Literacy Initiative

Our mission is to transform classrooms into hubs of climate action by integrating environmental education seamlessly into schools. Recognizing the pressing need to bridge the gap between education and sustainability, we embarked on a journey to identify and address the barriers hindering the effective integration of environmental education in Kenyan schools.

We also partner with local organizations to hold community initiatives such as environment clean-ups to guide community members on how to dispose of waste, especially plastic waste to save our environment and oceans, especially in the coast region of Kenya where we are based.

Join us on this journey as we harness the power of education, leadership, and gender equality for a sustainable world where the seeds we sow today blossom into a greener, more prosperous future for generations to come.

We believe that menstruation should not be the barrier preventing girls from achieving their dreams. We are, therefore, dedicated to working with like-minded individuals and organizations all over the world to eradicate period poverty. De-stigmatize menstruation, and empower girls to pursue their aspirations. We  initiated a program to support school going girls by ensuring that they stay in school during their periods by providing them with sanitary pads to last them 3 menstrual cycles and sometimes 6 depending on resources at hand.

My Periods, My Dignity

This project seeks to prevent cases of violence against women and girls in Mombasa County by enhancing awareness of community members to identify, prevent, and address the problem. Through local actors, the project will also facilitate psychosocial and economic support for the victims to ensure they continue to live healthy lives. The ultimate aim is to build a movement of people against violence meted on women and girls in Mombasa County that will play active roles in reducing the likelihood of violence against women and girls.

ELIMU CARE visits schools, community learning spaces and orphanages offering mentorship talks to encourage and motivate learners. Mentorship can help young people as they go through challenging life transitions, including dealing with stressful changes at home or transitioning to adulthood. Close, healthy, supportive relationships between mentors and mentees that last for significant portion of time are central to success.

Education being a sensitive and important thing it needs actors to advance it. Many individuals have put in efforts to support education, these actors face different challenges during their implementation. As an organization we donated revision materials, teachers guide books and taught Education Champions  different  basic skill of making homemade liquid soap which is essential when it comes to sanitation and can be used as economic empowerment to the community.  Location: Mombasa & Kilifi County.
